PANAJI: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has informed that capacity building of field enforcement staff is being done by providing additional equipment i.e 70 Breath Analyser/Alcometer of which 20 are already handed over to Police.

He further said that Vahan 4.0 integration on all India level is completed by Department wherein challan can be issued to any vehicle registered across country.
“Strict action is taken in respect of driving under the influence of alcohol. From the year 2022 till June 2023 total Number of violations detected are 2046, DLs forwarded to the Competent Authority for suspension are 1512 & Total number of prosecutions launched against driver are 1667,” he added
He further said that Goa is a preferred international tourist destination and large no. of tourists visits Goa. Driving own vehicle or using Rent a Car /Bike is a popular travel mode among tourists. Random checking by Enforcement teams of Police as well as Transport Department is carried out and violations by motorists are detected which are penalized as per law.
Expressing concern over rising road accidents and related fatalities, Sawant had said that the department of PWD, transport and police are coordinating to implement various measures to reduce the accidents.
“Compared to the other states, the vehicular population in the State is very high. Vehicle density compared to our population is highest,” he had said.
Sawant said that most accidents have occurred due to rash and negligence is non-following rules.
“Drunken driving and overtaking are also the cause of rising fatalities,” he had said.
He said that his government will take steps to completely stop drunk driving in the State since 95 per cent of the road accidents at night had been cases of alcohol influence.
