VASCO: In a tragic incident, a 16 year old boy Anil Chavan drowned in a laterite quarry at Cansualim on Tuesday morning
Sources said that the deceased boy was a resident of Shantinagar Vasco and was studying in a higher secondary school based in Zuarinagar
“The boy, along with two other students of the same higher secondary school, had gone to Cansualim at the old laterite quarry filled with water. It is unknown if they had come to the site from college or home, but the three went to the laterite quarry to swim in the water-filled quarry. The deceased student ventured into the water and was stuck in the quarry, and started to drown. The other two students tried to save the helpless drowning student and immediately alerted the police for help. The body was finally fished out by a local driver Anand Lamani who rushed to the site on the information. The body was stuck in the waters below ten feet, but the diver managed to recover the body and bring it on land,” said the source
The diver Anand Lamani and locals have appealed to people , especially students, not to venture into the water during rains because many people are unaware of the dangers and the depths of unknown water bodies in the area.
