Rajouri: A 17-year-old girl from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was detained after crossing the Line of Control (LoC) and entering Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district late at night.
The incident took place in the Lam sector of Nowshera, where an Army patrol detected suspicious movement near the LoC fence. The personnel challenged the person and moved in to verify the identity of the individual.
The person was found to be a teenage girl who identified herself as a resident of Khuiretta in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following preliminary questioning at the spot, the Indian Army handed her over to the Nowshera Police for further verification and investigation.
During the initial questioning, the teenager reportedly told authorities that she had crossed into the Indian side inadvertently. Her claim is now being examined as security agencies seek to establish the circumstances that led to her crossing the LoC.
Authorities are also looking into whether the incident was simply an accidental crossing or whether there were other factors behind her entry into Indian territory.
The teenager remains under police custody while officials conduct further questioning and verification. Investigators are expected to examine her identity, movements and circumstances surrounding the crossing before determining the next course of action.
Crossings along the LoC are treated as sensitive security incidents, particularly in areas where infiltration attempts and accidental crossings require careful verification. The case in Rajouri is therefore being investigated by the concerned security and police agencies.
