PANAJI: The State Election Commission (SEC) today imposed the model code of conduct ahead of the Panchayat Elections which are scheduled for August 10.
As per SEC, the dates for the filing of nominations are July 18 to July 25 from 10 am to 1 pm.
The scrutiny of nominations will be done on July 26 from 10 am till the scrutiny is completed.
The withdrawal will take place on July 27 from 10 am to 2 pm.
The polls will be held on August 10 from 8 am to 5 pm while the counting will take place on August 12 from 8 am till counting is completed.
“We will monitor the functioning of the assembly to see there is no code violation,” the SEC said in a press briefing
The State government on Tuesday notified the inclusion of 19 communities as backward classes to grant them political representation in local bodies.
Director of Panchayats Siddhi Halarnkar, in a notification issued by the department, has said that the communities are notified for inclusion in backward classes after taking into consideration the report and recommendations of the Goa State Commission for Backward Classes.
Halarnkar has notified the ‘inclusion of communities from the State list of OBC as Backward Classes for the purpose of reservation of seats for political representation in local bodies’, namely Village Panchayats.
