PANAJI: The state government today has filed appeal before High Court of Bombay at Goa challenging Panaji Children’s Court verdict to acquit Grishma Talwar in 2009 minor girl murder case.
The state has also pleaded to enhance punishment of Chandrakant Talwar and Cyron Rodrigues from lifer to death sentence.
Both the accused Talwar from Panjim and Cyron from Merces were arrested by the Verna police for murdering a 16-year-old girl from Taleigao on October 17, 2009 while, the murder was reported on October 11, 2009.
According to the police, the two accused took the minor victim in a car from her Taleigao residence to Vasco on the pretext of showing her examination centre and when the car was in motion both the accused committed her pre-planned murder by forcibly strangulating her in the vehicle itself by putting a cable wire around her neck.
Thereafter the accused robbed valuables from her person and disposed the body near a tower at Verna where the accused also attempted to burn the body in order to destroy her identity and evidence.
The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch police and the then PI Sunita Sawant conducted investigations and chargesheeted the accused.
The court examined in all 68 witnesses to prove the charges.
