New Delhi: Officials have confirmed that 259 victims of the Air India Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad have been identified, with 253 through DNA matching and six by facial recognition. So far, 256 bodies have been handed over to families.
The flight to London crashed on June 12, seconds after take-off, hitting the BJ Medical College residential campus near the airport. Only one passenger of the 242 on board survived.
The black box is under investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu denied reports that it was damaged or sent abroad.
Air India has reduced wide-body international flights by 15% as a precautionary measure through mid-July.
