MAPUSA: A 29-year-old boy Aryan Salgaonkar was taken into custody by the Mapusa police for allegedly making disparaging remarks about Devi Lairai on social media.
Amit Anant Gaonkar, of Manswado, Shirgao, Bicholim, filed a complaint at the Mapusa Police Station, and a case was filed there under the IPC’s sections 153, 153-A, 295-A, 208, 500, and 34.
In accordance with IPC Sections 153, 153(a), 295(a), 298, 500, and 34, the police filed a case. In addition to seizing his cell phone, the accused Aryan Salgaonkar was arrested by the police.
Devi Lairai’s followers marched to the Bicholim police station on May 22 and caused an issue with law and order. In an effort to hurt people’s religious feelings, a mob also blocked the Bicholim-Sanquelim road in protest of controversial remarks made about Shri Lairai Devi in Shirgao by self-described activist Shreya Dhargalkar.
Social media users shared a video of the protest, and it was claimed that the two suspects made offensive remarks about it.
