Devi Lairai’s followers marched to the Bicholim police station on May 22 and caused an issue with law and order. In an effort to hurt people’s religious feelings, a mob also blocked the Bicholim-Sanquelim road in protest of controversial remarks made about Shri Lairai Devi in Shirgao by self-described activist Shreya Dhargalkar.
Social media users shared a video of the protest, and it was claimed that the two suspects made offensive remarks about it.
