TILLARI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today has expressed satisfaction with the contractors work on the canal, staying that 25 km stretch on Goa side has been taken up for repair
CM Dr. Pramod Sawant and WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, along with the officers of WRD, inspected the ongoing works of the canal of the Tilari irrigation project.
“I am satisfied with the contractor’s work on the canal, stating that a 25 km stretch has been taken up for repair,” said Sawant
He further said that this comprehensive repair project, slated to last 25 years, has been sanctioned with a budget of approximately Rs. 128 crore.
CM Dr. Pramod Sawant along with WRD minister Subhash Shirodkar also inspected under construction barrage in Sal village.
Early this morning, there was a major breach in the Tillari Dam canal at Kudase-Bhomwadi, Dodamarg.
Major areas of North Goa’s water supply are probably going to be impacted by the occurrence.
It was seen that the canal’s water was overflowing the surrounding farms and plantations and spilling out onto the roads.
Government representatives from Goa and Maharashtra are on the scene attempting to evaluate and resolve the issue.
According to the locals, the frequent breaches in the Tillari canal is a result of the poor quality of work carried out.
Many alleged that crores have been spent on the repair works in the last 30 years but nothing seems to have been done at the site.
The left and right canals of the Tillari dam have been constructed many years back and are in a dilapidated condition, according to sources.
