PANAJI: Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant appreciated IGNOU for offering certificate and diploma courses related to Skill India program launched by Government of India. Delivering the convocation address, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a lot of focus on Fit India, Skill India, and Inclusive India.
“As today’s youth have to equip themselves to meet requirements of the industry, advanced education is need of the hour. I am glad IGNOU is offering several such courses which will help the country meet the Prime Minister’s dream of Viksit Bharat 2047. IGNOU is well prepared to take the New Education Policy-based courses to the youth of this country,” he observed.
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to declare that the Government of Goa has allotted 5000 sq.mts of land to IGNOU to set up a permanent campus in Farmagudi.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Kameshwari Moorty, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Panaji, said that the strength of the nation lies in its human resources which can be developed through higher education. “Each one of us should get equal opportunities to pursue higher education. Some of us do not get that due to various reasons. And, IGNOU has the answer for all those who wish to study further but could not,” she said.
1,363 degrees were awarded under the Panaji Regional Centre for those who completed their courses in the December 2022 and June 2023 Term End Examinations. The number of degrees presented across the country is 3,35,084. Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar was the chief guest at the Convocation Ceremony held at the main campus of IGNOU in Delhi. Over 39 regional centers organized similar ceremonies across the country today.
