PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa on Monday made it clear that while defeating the BJP remains its top priority, any opposition alliance must be based on a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) focused on Goa’s core issues — not on seat-sharing or power arrangements.
Addressing a press conference, newly appointed State President Valmiki Naik, along with Organisational Secretary Prashant Naik, Working President Gerson Gomes, Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar Dessai, and MLAs Capt. Venzy Viegas and Engr. Cruz Silva, laid out AAP’s vision for a principled opposition alliance.
Valmiki Naik said Goa needs clarity before any alliance is formed.
“Before talking about seats, we must agree on Goa’s future. Corruption, land scams, TCP amendments, mining scams, SEZ frauds and bad governance have destroyed this State. Goa does not need another scam-ridden coalition replacing BJP’s scam government. The agenda must come first, not power,” he said.
Naik pointed out that AAP has a track record of working for opposition unity.
“Many don’t realise that the INDIA alliance was shaped by Arvind Kejriwal’s efforts. AAP brought opposition forces together nationally. We are ready to lead a strong alliance in Goa too, but chemistry and intention must be right before arithmetic,” he added.
Working President Gerson Gomes said AAP was born from an anti-corruption movement.
“We are not here for power. Our goal is to give Goans honest governance. Any alliance must be to serve the people, not to distribute posts,” Gomes said.
Organisational Secretary Prashant Naik said the party will focus on building its base.
“Over the next few months, AAP will strengthen its grassroots organisation. Booth-level teams will be given specific targets to ensure strong local presence across Goa,” he said.
Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar Dessai said AAP will take corruption head-on.
“We will hit the ground on the issue of massive corruption across Goa. That is our core ideology,” he stated.
AAP MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas said the party has already made sacrifices for unity.
“I withdrew my South Goa Lok Sabha candidacy to strengthen the anti-BJP fight. That shows our sincerity. For 2027, AAP is not just open to alliance — we are ready to lead it, as long as it is for Goa and not for posts,” he said.
MLA Engr. Cruz Silva said alliances must be issue-based.
“AAP offers honest candidates, clear leadership and people-centric governance. Any alliance must be based on Goa’s public issues, not political arithmetic,” he said.
