PANAJI: TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that all actions taken by the government in Goa have been strictly in accordance with the law, while also refuting claims of large-scale land conversion in Pernem taluka.
Addressing media persons, Rane clarified that he has not framed any laws himself and maintained that the government functions for the people and by the people. He said questions and allegations would be responded to during the Assembly session, which is the appropriate forum.
“Whatever actions have been taken in Goa have been in accordance with the law. I want to clarify that I, Vishwajit Rane, have not made any laws. We work for the people and by the people. I will respond to questions during the Assembly session; it is not necessary to answer everything outside,” Rane said.
Referring to a statement made by Pernem MLA Jit Arolkar regarding alleged large-scale land conversions, the minister termed the claims shocking and factually incorrect. He rejected allegations that 60 lakh square metres of land had been converted in Pernem taluka.
“As per official records of the Town and Country Planning Department, only 21 cases have been finally notified under Section 39A, covering a total area of 2,36,366 square metres, nothing more,” Rane stated.
He further clarified that provisional proposals do not amount to land conversion and that any conversion follows a clearly defined legal process. This process includes detailed scrutiny, inviting objections, and final notification, he said.
The minister added that all such matters would be addressed transparently and within the framework of the law during the Assembly session.
