The Goencho Avaaz and Goencho Ekvott groups on Tuesday met the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and demanded that the coal handling at MPT be stopped by November 14, 2020, failing which they have warned of a mass agitation.
“We explained to the CM in detail how Goa will be destroyed. Coal is going to come via double track, national highway and will go by the sea. Also we brought to his notice the Mollem destruction,” said Capt Viriato Fernandes of Goencho Avaaz.
He said the CM has admitted he had no knowledge of the destruction and the other projects.
“CM also admitted that the coal will cause destruction and sought some time. He told us not to come on roads till then,” he stated.
Capt Viriato said that they have given CM a memorandum and put their demands.
“We have old him will continue awareness. We have told him there are three ports available so why only Goa is selected for coal,” he said adding “we have given ultimatum upto November 14 or face agitation. He said he will look into it.
Captain Viriato also brought to the notice of CM that destruction that will be caused by the Major ports bill wherein the powers of ports will be more than local government.
“No panchayat no municipality and planning bodies will not have powers, CM was surprised,” he said.
