PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that an expert Advisory Board will be formed to oversee the operations of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) and ensure its services meet international benchmarks.
The proposed board, which Rane will chair, will include representatives from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the World Health Organisation (WHO) – India, the Government of India, and eminent doctors from across the country. The State’s Additional Secretary (Health) will act as the board’s member secretary.
Rane said that a similar Advisory Board had existed in the past, and its revival is aimed at improving the hospital’s efficiency and enhancing patient care, particularly for economically weaker sections.
“This initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing international standard healthcare across all states,” Rane said.
He added that qualified doctors will be part of GMC’s specialised medical services, while others will be sent for further training. The board will also be tasked with establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specialised treatments.
“It’s important to have an independent body guiding us, along with national and international agencies, to improve healthcare delivery,” he stated.
