CALANGUTE: Four days after the tragic incident of the body of Siddhi Naik found on the Calangute beach, there has been no headway in the case.
The post-mortem report of the body reported it was due to drowning. However, the question over the condition in which the body was found still remain.
Meanwhile, the family, blaming the police for botching up the case, has now said that she was under depression.
In the statement to Calangute police, the father has said that Siddhi was disturbed after testing positive for COVID since April.
“She blamed herself for spreading COVID in family and did not want to change; she as depressed and said all will die due to COVID19,” the statement read.
He said that when he dropped her at Guirim junction on a fateful day, she even said that only her dead body will return home.
New clues, says father…
Sandip Naik, the father of Siddhi Naik, said that they have found some new clues and have been handed over to the police.
“We are hopeful, police are conducting thorough investigations, and results will be out in 24 hours,” he told Goemkarponn.
He added, “The police have assured us of a breakthrough in the case soon.”
He further said that this fight is not just for Siddhi but for the entire girls of Goa.
“We want every girl to be safe in Goa,” he said.
Bus Conductors says she was depressed…
A bus conductor on the Panaji Mapusa route, who knew Sidhi Naik told police he had seen the deceased waiting at Mapusa bus stand at 11.30.
“I say that she was standing at 10 number (spot at Mapusa Bus stand), where buses going to Siolim and Morjim stops. I voluntarily contacted the family members, and later the police after news about Sidhi going missing went viral, a day before her body was found at Calangute,” he said.
“I say that she was standing alone and talking to herself. She was standing and holding a hand to hand. There was no one around her, but she was looking at people passing by her. I say that looking at her, it appeared to me as if she was under some deep depression and disturbed,” the conductor said in the statement.
He said that she was still standing at the bus stand when he left for Panaji.
Lifeguard says not seen her on beach…
A lifeguard at Calangute beach said that at about 5.30 am one unknown person who was doing a workout on the beach approached him and informed him that someone is drowning in the Sea water.
The lifeguard said he rushed there with emergency light.
“Accordingly, I immediately informed the rescue team deployed at Calangute Lifeguard tower, and they ran to the rescue,” he said, revealing in his statement graphic details about the place and also the body, which we are withholding considering the dignity of the deceased.
The lifeguard has said that he did not notice the girl roaming on Calangute beach during his duty hours.
“I say that as per my calculations/findings, the said girl has not gone in the sea at Calangute beach where she has washed ashore. If she had gone in the seawater at Calangute beach, her clothes would have been found nearby. I stated that the incident of drowning must have occurred somewhere else, and she has washed ashore at Calangute beach,” his statement reads.
