MARGAO: Agxem sports club defeated Unjirim United by 2-1 goals, in a 9-a-side interward football tournament organized by Sporting Club Virabhat and played at St.Alex Church ground, Curtorim.
The match started on a promising note and both team’s players were trying to take the lead in the first quarter but Clifton Fernandes missed the first chance to score for Unjirim United.
Later on, Nickson Castanah of Agxem sports club fired from close range giving no chance to Unjirim goalkeeper. At half-time Agxem were leading by 1-0
In the second session of play Unjirim’s Alister powerful shot was punched away for a corner while Agxem inflated the lead through Michael Paes to make 2-0 then Unjirim Floyd Antao Well fed by Niclau who ran down beat the defence and goalkeeper and placed the ball in far corner of the net.
Then Joval Martin gave a through pass to Salviton Fernandes of Agxem but failed to hit the target. In the dying minutes of the game, Unjirim United missed the golden opportunity to level the score.
