Mormugao: In a dramatic showdown, Mormugao Eagles defeated title favourites Chicalim Tigers to claim the championship title at the 2nd All Stars Cup 2024. Both teams finished the league stage tied with 7 points each, but the Eagles’ head-to-head victory secured their well-deserved triumph. Organized by the Panjim Smashers Club in aegis with the Goa Badminton Association, the tournament held at the Indoor Stadium, Campal featured eight teams battling in an exciting league format of 6 doubles matches. The day long team event featured Goa’s young talents in action from mini (U11) age groups up to U21 ages.
The league saw several thrilling matches, with BPS Army initially dominating after defeating the eventual champions, Mormugao Eagles, in the group stage. However, BPS Army narrowly lost their last two matches by just one point, to settle for third place. Panjim Warriors, which tied with BPS and three other teams on points, secured fourth place through a superior points difference, showcasing the team balance and competitiveness of each of the squads. Sanquelim Shuttlers, South Stallions, Sunlite Shooters and North Knights were the other four teams that participated in this Inter club format league event.
The winning squad, Mormugao Eagles, was brilliantly led by captain Sahil Sayed Ahmed, with star performances from their icon players Shivam Prabhu Desai and Niharika Parwar. The runners-up, Chicalim Tigers, showcased exceptional talent under the leadership of Goa’s top State player Yash Desai, with Sudhanva Udupa and Avni Khyalia shining as their icon players.
BPS Army, captained by the dynamic Aryan Kumar, boasted two standout icons, Aaryaa Metry and Sparsh Kolwalkar, whose contributions were pivotal throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Panjim Warriors, led by Siddharth Hazra, impressed with the skills of their icon players Minoshka Pereira and Vansh Natekar, earning them a well-fought fourth-place finish.
