PONDA: Two days back, there was a water shortage at Khandepar after a heavy vehicle ran over a valve above the ground level.
The locals at OPA Khandepar have now expressed concern over one more sluice valve located above road level by the side of the road shoulder, which according to them, poses a risk of accidents.
Local Sandeep Parkar said the PWD of this Valve is within the shoulder area of the national highway at Opa road junction at Khandepar.
As per norms, such a valve should be placed in chambers and below one meter of the basement area by constructing a concrete structure from all four sides. Just two days back, one incident happened at OPA road junction, Khandepar, one heavy vehicle went above the valve; such things will be repeated if the valve is above the ground level area, thus risking the lives of the commuters.
It was also a risk to the students of MIBK high schools and pedestrians who use that road.
In case a vehicle runs over, it will not only damage the water line, causing a water shortage but also cause vehicle accidents. Locals demand PWD adopt safety measures immediately.
