VASCO: Anti-Narcotics awareness rally was held in Vasco city by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of The Deepvihar Higher secondary school, Headland Sada, on Saturday. Vasco MLA Salkar opined that more awareness of drug abuse and its ill effects on society is needed so that people don’t fall prey to drugs.
As an annual practice of the school, the Deepvihar Higher secondary school from Headland Sada, along with its staff, held an awareness rally throughout the Vasco city to sensitize people about the bad effects of the drugs and narcotics substance on the people.
Earlier during the formal function, Headmistress K. Korgaonkar of Deepvihar HSSC said that their institution has been a pioneer in organizing the public rally to create awareness about drug abuse and its bad effect on society. This institution has been doing this awareness for the past 30 years, Korgaonkar added.
She further said that due to the Covid19 pandemic, there was a gap of two years, but this year the institution has organized this awareness rally.
Later, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, a chief guest, said that he has witnessed the people who have gone too far in the drug abuse who, in their later phase, try to give up drugs but fail to do so due to the habit and urge of drug consumption.
He further said that it is very important that the youth know about the dangerous effects of the narcotic substance on their health and their family. A person who consumes drugs doesn’t suffer alone; his family, friends and society also suffer. He further added that more awareness of drug abuse and its bad effects are needed so that people don’t fall prey to it,” he said.
After the formal function, several students holding placards, banners and giving slogans held an awareness rally in Port town, giving a message about saying no to drugs.
