MARGAO: Arlem Youth Association defeated Santa Cruz Society Poitomado 5-4 via the tiebreaker to enter into the quarterfinals of the 30th Mandopa Cup org by Mandopa sports club and played at their ground on Sunday
Both teams played end-to-end contests and kept the crowd busy but Arlem Youth Association scored the first goal when Patrick D’Souza gave a cross pass to Alleen Dias who ran down and shot to the left side of Cuncolim goalkeeper in the net in the 25th minute of play and remained 1-0 lead till the half time
After the resumption of the second half, both teams tried to take control of the game and Arlem Youth Association wasted the opportunity to increase the lead before the final whistle Cuncolim levelled the score through the solo effort of Tushar Gaonkar and the match ended in 1-1 draw.
In the resultant tiebreaker, Arlem Youth Association netted through Kifern Dias, Allen Fernandes, Sweden Barbosa and Ashlon Quadros while Santa Cruz Society Poitomado Cuncolim Ravesh Velip, Shankar Gaunder and Warren Dias found the net.
Alloy Vaz goalkeeper of Arlem Youth Association was adjudged as Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution and for saving some goal mouth chances by Inacio Noronha.
