Benaulim: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda, marched into the quarterfinals of the 14th Super Soccer Inter-Village Football Tournament after a nail-biting 4-3 victory over UBD Colva via the tiebreaker. The tournament is being organized by United Club Benaulim and played at the St John the Baptist ground.
The young and energetic UBD Colva side drew first blood in the 37th minute through midfielder Terrance Fernandes, who smartly slotted the ball past Assolda goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues. However, Assolda came back strongly in the second half, with Dryen Fernandes netting the equalizer after receiving a precise pass from Joaquim Carvalho.
With both teams locked in a 1-1 deadlock at full-time, the match was decided via the tiebreaker. Assolda held their nerve, with Valentino Carvalho, Joaquim Carvalho, and Akram Yadwad converting their attempts. For UBD Colva, only Riston Gomes and Clayton Fernandes managed to score.
Assolda goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues, who made crucial saves, was adjudged the Man of the Match. The award was presented by Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira and Ressia Pereira.
