AYODHYA: The construction of the Ram Mandir at the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya has for decades fuelled Bharatiya Janata Party’s politics. But the saffron party’s loss in Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, where Ayodhya is located, has added insult to the party’s UP injury. Worse is the fact that the defeat came five months after the grand opening of the Ram Temple. The Faizabad Lok Sabha constituency, in which the temple town falls, rejected its two-time BJP MP Lallu Singh and instead voted in Samajwadi Party’s Awadhesh Prasad. Prasad defeated Singh by…

Maybe it had something to do with a lack of motivation, what with Mumbai Indians hurtling and playing themselves out of contention for a playoff berth, but the franchise’s deposed captain clearly wasn’t having the best of runs with the T20 World Cup imminent. Rohit shrugged off the horrendous slump with a brilliant 38-ball 68 in perhaps his final innings for MI. Given how much emphasis Rohit places on leading from the front,…

Thursday’s World Cup Qualifier against Kuwait is a crucial match for India as a victory will put them on the brink of qualifying for the third round from Group A. On the other…
