CHINCHINIM: A 70-year-old bedridden woman lost her life in a devastating fire that broke out late Monday at a rented accommodation in Chinchinim.
According to Cuncolim Police Inspector Diogo Gracias, the elderly woman was unable to escape due to her medical condition when the blaze engulfed the room.
Her brother, who was staying with her, managed to flee but sustained burn injuries in the incident.
The siblings were residing together in a rented premises when the fire erupted.
Personnel from the Cuncolim Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control, but the woman had already succumbed.
Police have shifted the body to the South Goa District Hospital mortuary for further formalities. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
