MAPUSA: A Karnataka native was arrested by Goa police under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act after tying a dog to his motorcycle and dragging it down the road for several kilometers until the dog passed away.
A senior police officer stated that Ashok Panhalkar, who was born in Belgaum (Karnataka) and is currently residing in Khorlim, Mapusa, has been charged with an offense under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Following the accused’s video going popular on social media on Thursday, police had filed a complaint against him.
The accused allegedly tied the dog to his motorcycle at 4:15 p.m. on September 4 and dragged him before discarding his body by the side of the road.
According to the police, the accused’s actions cruelly exposed the animal.
The culprit was taken into custody on Thursday, he added, shortly after the FIR was filed against him.
