Panaji: The women’s wing of the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has raised serious concerns regarding the growing challenges faced by local women due to the overcrowding of public transport in Goa, allegedly caused by an influx of migrant workers.
The issue, they say, is not only affecting the daily commute but also leading to instances of discomfort and harassment for Goan women who rely on these services.
Addressing the media in the presence of RGP President Manoj Parab, representatives of the women’s wing stated that the increasing pressure on public infrastructure is a direct result of unchecked migration, which they claim is also creating an imbalance in job opportunities in the state.
According to the RGP women leaders, local Goan women are being sidelined for jobs in sectors such as manufacturing and industrial work, where employers are allegedly showing a clear preference for hiring migrant laborers.
“It is disheartening to see our qualified and capable women being denied opportunities in their own land while outsiders are being favored,” one member said.
To address what they described as a growing socio-economic crisis, the RGP women’s wing has launched the “Stree Kranti” initiative—a campaign aimed at empowering Goan women and creating a platform for them to raise their voices against injustice.
“This is not just about jobs or transport—this is about dignity and equality for Goan women,” said a representative of the women’s wing.
“We are calling on every Goan woman to join us in this movement. Together, through ‘Stree Kranti,’ we can push for systemic changes that protect our rights and ensure our voices are heard.”
Party President Manoj Parab expressed his full support for the initiative, stating that the RGP remains committed to safeguarding the interests of Goans and ensuring that local communities are not left behind in the face of rapid demographic and economic changes.
The RGP has also urged the state government to take immediate steps to regulate migration, improve public transport facilities, and ensure fair employment practices that prioritize local residents, especially women.
