PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the first phase of the Goa Ujjwala Scheme is expected to benefit around 2.5 lakh beneficiaries, with the financial assistance being credited directly to their bank accounts.
Sawant said the State government is working towards commencing the payment process from September 9, subject to the completion of the application and verification process.
The Chief Minister also said Goa has achieved kerosene-free State status, with most households having shifted to LPG or PNG connections for their cooking requirements.
According to Sawant, the government believes that almost every household in the State now has access to either LPG or PNG. He, however, said families that have not yet secured a gas connection can apply for a new connection.
The government has urged Panchayat representatives and Swayampurna Mitras to identify households that may still be without LPG or PNG and assist them in obtaining connections.
Under the Goa Ujjwala Scheme 2026, eligible households will receive Rs 3,000 in annual financial assistance towards cooking-fuel expenses. The amount will be transferred in a single instalment through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
