PANAJI: The Congress Party and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) held a constructive meeting to discuss the possibility of an alliance ahead of the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao met RGP MLA Viresh Borkar and RGP Alliance Committee Chairman Amol Navelkar to deliberate on strengthening opposition unity and protecting Goa’s identity, interests and future.
The parties said the people of Goa were calling for unity among opposition forces and stressed the need for a united front ahead of the elections.
The meeting also focused on the larger political objective of ensuring that the voice and concerns of Goans are represented and protected.
The alliance committees of both parties have agreed to continue discussions in the coming days to work out the framework and modalities of cooperation.
The parties said the discussions would be guided by the larger interests and aspirations of the people of Goa as they explore a possible electoral understanding.
