ARLEM: A 42-year-old man was found dead at his residence near Peter’s Shop in Arlem, Salcete, on September 3.
Maina-Curtorim Police received information about the incident from PCR Margao at around 5.28 pm. Police personnel reached the spot and found Jose Gauncar, 42, a resident of Arlem, hanging from the wooden roof of the house with a nylon rope.
During the inquiry, Gauncar’s brother Peter reportedly told police that the deceased had been struggling with alcoholism and was facing depression related to unemployment.
Police conducted an UD occurrence panchanama and inquest panchanama before shifting the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for post-mortem examination.
A police surgeon later conducted the autopsy and certified the cause of death as asphyxia due to hanging.
After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for the final religious rites.
Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Narayan Pinge of Maina-Curtorim Police Station.
