PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that accidents and reckless driving are on the rise and it’s not solely the transport department’s responsibility, but also the people’s, to ensure road.
CM Sawant was addressing the gathering after inaugural Ceremony of 13th State Road Safety Week 2024.

He further urged people not to drink and drive. If you’re drunk, have a co-driver or a designated driver to avoid accidents.
“We have also decided to conduct regular alcohol tests for public transportation drivers.” said Sawant
Chief Minister also said that Road safety awareness is crucial in schools and colleges for students, as it will help reduce accidents on our roads.
“Through this Road Safety Week, we aim to raise awareness among the people,” he added
Goa sees minimum of one accidental death per day and not less than 365 accidental deaths per year, informed CM Pramod Sawant.
“Over 50% of these are self accidents,” he added. Sawant also said that his govt is fast tracking all road engineering proposals to enhance road safety.
He urged Goans to refrain from drinking and driving and putting their as well as well others lives in danger.
Sawant has urged people to reduce their use of two-wheelers and cars and instead opt for public transportation. Sawant also said that this shift will help decrease road accidents and alleviate traffic congestion.
