PANAJI: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho today said that Goa government will introduce biometric attendance systems very soon to keep a check on rampant absenteeism among village panchayat staff.
“Attendance is very less at many places, Village panchayat staff are public servants and have to be regular with their duties to ensure that government schemes reach the people, villagers proposals are cleared at fast pace, work gets done in timely manner etc,” said Mauvin
At a meeting earlier this week, the Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho presided over the discussion and finalization of the proposal. Officials were tasked with obtaining data regarding the number of panchayats that possess functional biometric machines and estimating the overall quantity needed.
New equipment will be purchased, and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) of the central government as well as Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) of the State government will be enlisted to help.
With the help of biometrics, Goa’s 191 panchayats—which employ roughly 700 people total—including secretaries and DoP officials, are hoping to tighten up on staff attendance and punctuality.
In total, the department, which includes every BDO office, employs 300 more people.
Regarding the panchayats, the majority consist of a secretary and a clerk, while a smaller number may have two or even four clerks.
