VASCO: Prof Narendra Nath Ghosh, a Professor of Chemistry at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa campus, has been featured among the world’s top 2 per cent highly cited scientists in both ‘career-long data (end-of-2021)’ and ‘single recent year data (2021)” categories in a list created by the researcher of Stanford University, US which was published on 10th October 2022.
In this list, scientists are classified into 22 fields and 176 sub-fields and Prof Ghosh’s sub-field was ‘Materials’.
The selection is based on the top 1,00,000 scientists from all over the world by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2 per cent or above in the sub-field considering their research publications and citations using all Scopus author profiles.
Their lifetime contributions to specific fields of research were also factors that led to getting them on the list. For this work, Scopus data provided by Elsevier through ICSR Lab updated to the end of the citation year 2021 was used.
Prof Ghosh has immensely contributed to the research area of nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Under his guidance, his research group members develop new methods to prepare varieties of nanostructured materials. Recently his group was successful in preparing nanocomposites from coconut fibres.
The materials Prof Ghosh’s research group develop have demonstrated their potential to be used in wastewater treatment, electric storage devices, materials for defence applications, etc.
His research is supported by various national and international funding agencies such as Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, DRDO, Department of Atomic Energy, University Grant Commission, CSIR, Aditya Birla Group, British Council (UK), Royal Academy Engineering (UK), etc. Along with the research students and collaborators, Prof Ghosh has published more than 100 research papers in reputed international journals.
