PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao accused the BJP-led Goa government of misusing power to suppress dissent and intimidate activists speaking out against corruption and environmental destruction.
Expressing support for activist Swapnesh Sherlekar, Alemao said the “misuse of power reflects sheer arrogance” and was aimed at silencing the voice of the people.
“But we will not be silenced. We stand firm with Sherlekar and with all those who strive to protect Goa. The spirit of our people can’t be crushed, and the fight for justice and preservation of Goa will continue,” Alemao stated.
The Congress leader further alleged that the government was attempting to curb citizens’ constitutional right to freedom of speech.
“The Constitution guarantees citizens the right to freedom of speech. Yet, the BJP4Goa government is attempting to deprive people of this right by intimidating activists and encouraging andhbhakts to file complaints against Swapnesh Sherlekar for raising his voice against corruption and destruction,” he said.
