CANACONA – After notable activities by the Bio-diversity Management Committee (BMC) of Shrishthal village, Poinguinim BMC is also becoming active with a slew of activities on the rich availability of Biodiversity heritage in the village.
Poinguinim BMC has undertaken a special study of the existence of the Flora and Fauna and has been visiting the village forests, besides interacting with the indigenous people living in forest cover.
BMC Poinguinim, under the chairmanship of Environmentalist Subhash Mahale, undertook an activity to plant Sandalwood saplings in the village.
Around 10 Sandalwood saplings were planted at Chandana-Ped, at Welwada, a well-known spot within the village, by BMC Poinguinim in the presence of President of Shri Parashuram Panchagram Committee Uday Prabhugaonker, President of Poinguinim Communidade Damodar Phalgaonker, Dy. Sarpanch Sunil Painganker, panch Pravir Bhandari, BMC Chairman Subash Mahale, members Viraj Pai Khot, Gajanan Bandeker.
Incidentally, though it was said that a Sandalwood (Chandan) tree existed once upon a time, presently, there was no Chandan tree at Chandana -Ped at Welwada. The BMC decided to give the proper significance to Chandana-Ped and planted not one but 10, sandalwood saplings.
Shivanand Vaidhya, besides BMC coordinator Deepak Bowalkar were also present.Sandesh Painginkar, took the responsibility of taking care of the plants.
BMC had recently also carried out tree plantation in all the schools of Village Panchayat Shradhanand Vidyalaya, St. Anthony HS, Galgibaga Balram Residential School, Amone, Govt High School, Sadolxem, Balram Higher Secondary, Ordhofond and also Funds has been provided for maitainance of these saplings.
700 cloth bags were stitched for the Biodiversity Management Board, also conducted meetings at Marlim-Tirval, Mahalwada, Galgibaga, to get information and knowledge about Biodiversity of the localities to prepare Public Biodiversity Report of Poinguinim.-
