VASCO: In a historic event, over 100 children from the Bogmalo panchayat took centre stage at the first-ever Bal Gram Sabha, held at the local church due to the ongoing construction of the Panchayat Ghar. The event, aimed at empowering the younger generation, saw enthusiastic participation from children aged 11 to 18, as well as teachers and parents.
During the meeting, children voiced concerns about various village issues, including playground maintenance, transport facilities, and road conditions. Esteemed speakers from the fields of education, panchayat administration, and law enforcement addressed the gathering, providing valuable insights.
The Vasco Traffic Police conducted a special traffic safety awareness session, educating the children on road safety rules. Talks on the Child Protection Act were also delivered by Panch Adv. Aishwarya Thorat to ensure the younger generation is aware of their rights.
Speaking to reporters, Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale expressed the panchayat’s commitment to taking the suggestions of children seriously.
“This is the first Bal Gram Sabha in the history of our panchayat. We followed all due procedures, and Secretary Kapil Naik explained the concept of Bal Gram Sabha to the children. We heard their suggestions and demands, and we will work towards addressing these issues. Children are the future of our country, and we plan to implement a vision development plan based on their suggestions.”
The event marked an important milestone in the panchayat’s effort to include the younger generation in local governance, ensuring their needs and ideas are given a platform.
