Brasilia: The Parliaments of ten BRICS member countries, including India, strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, India, during the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in Brasilia on June 4-5, 2025. The event saw active participation from parliamentary representatives of India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.
India was represented by a high-level delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who also received unanimous support as Chairperson for the upcoming 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum to be hosted in India. The delegation included Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Rajya Sabha MP Surendra Singh Nagar, Lok Sabha MPs Vijay Baghel, Vivek Thakur, Shabari Bareddy, along with key parliamentary secretaries and officials.
The joint declaration issued at the conclusion of the conference highlighted a collective commitment to a ‘zero tolerance’ stance against terrorism. The Parliaments agreed to enhance cooperation in cutting off financial support to terrorist organizations, sharing intelligence, preventing the misuse of modern technologies, and collaborating in investigations and judicial processes.
India’s firm stance on global security and terrorism was highly praised by all participating nations, with Om Birla’s presentations on these issues forming an integral part of the final declaration. Alongside security concerns, the conference also reached consensus on key issues such as artificial intelligence, global trade and economy, and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The BRICS Parliamentary Forum underscored the importance of unified efforts to maintain global peace and stability, recognizing India’s leadership role in advancing this vision. With the next forum to be held in India under Om Birla’s chairmanship, the country is expected to further strengthen collaboration among BRICS nations to address global challenges collectively.
