New Delhi:
In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, February 25, the Delhi Assembly witnessed unprecedented turmoil when 15 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Atishi, were suspended for the day. The suspension came after AAP members disrupted Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address, protesting the alleged removal of Dr. BR Ambedkar’s portrait from the Chief Minister’s office and the tabling of a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.
The CAG report, which was presented during the session, highlighted significant financial losses due to the AAP’s liquor policy during its tenure. The report criticized the policy’s implementation, citing a lack of scrutiny of business entities and unmet objectives. This development is part of a broader series of CAG reports aimed at exposing alleged corruption by the AAP government.
AAP MLAs, led by Atishi, protested outside the Assembly, waving placards and shouting slogans against the BJP government. They accused the BJP of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar by replacing his portrait with that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP countered these claims, stating that the portraits of Dr. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh were still displayed in the office, albeit in a different location.
The BJP also accused the AAP of using diversionary tactics to hide its own corruption. Delhi BJP leaders emphasized that the CAG reports would expose the extent of corruption under the AAP’s rule, which they claimed had been hidden for years.
