CALANGUTE: As the new tourist season begins, the Calangute police have stepped up their efforts to combat touts in the coastal area in an effort to improve public safety and uphold law and order.
According to Calangute police, “the police have launched a comprehensive campaign to ensure a safer and more pleasant environment for both locals and tourists, as well as to curb nuisance elements and illegal activities.”
Under this effort, 76 touts have been targeted for action in the past 15 days. Each tout has been fined Rs 5,000, bringing the total punishment collected by the tourism department to Rs 3.80 lakh. In addition, 15 vendors have been disciplined for intimidating visitors in the beach area, according to the police.
