CURCHOREM: The political development in Goa have sparked a heated debate of sorts in the Curchorem-Quepem area about whether the Trinamool Congress’ entry into Goa politics.
People opine that if the TMC had moved in the last six months, Goa politics would have changed.
There are also reactions from the people that the party is like the weather. The Trinamool Congress party arrived in Goa just a few months before the Assembly elections, as it did in 2012, 2017 and once again in 2022.
There is a lot of discussion going on regarding their present advent.
The Trinamool Congress has shown its presence in Goa in the last two Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Churchill Alemao contested the Trinamool Congress party and got about 12,000 votes.
And once again, the public discussion has shown that their main purpose in establishing this party is to gain recognition as a national party and attract the people’s attention by showing their presence in the forthcoming Assembly elections in four or five states by 2022.
The aim is to register the party as a national party, and Trinamool Congress High Command Mamata Banerjee’s primary goal is to become the Prime Minister of India.
People feel that Trinamool Congress came to Goa because it did not see Goenkar’s sentiments, and its main objective was to establish a party like Congress-BJP at the national level.
If they were so concerned about Goa, why did they not have a small office in Goa for the last 14 years, since they contested last, ask Curchorcars?
“Running an office was not a big issue for her, and the people of Goa will believe that she has not done anything special in the last two elections,” they said.
Avdhut Sukhtankar, a local businessman, said it is nothing new in Goan politics as this politician take their own decision according to their whims and fancies; they are not considering their own party where they elected or the people who chose them.
Bhanudas Bhandari from Sanvordem says that the way the politicians act, the future of democracy is in danger, and it may collapse anytime if people do not unite to save democracy.
John D”costa of Curchorem says some people left the party for their self-interest and packages for after retirement.
“Such an act cannot harm Congress, but it will consolidate the party for a better future, and young leaders will get chances,” he said.
