CANACONA: The entire Canacona wore a festive look, while Catholics are all set to celebrate Christmas in a grand way after a gap of two Covid-riddled years.
Chaudi, the commercial hub of Canacona, was abuzz with several visitors making a rush to make various purchases, including provisions, dresses, as well as decorations and lights.
Shops and Establishments have done brisk business for a week now even many people were seen making purchases on the penultimate day (Friday).
Some of the churches have scheduled early midnight masses, and related Church services have also made an out-of-the Church mass arrangements.
Almost all Parishes have also planned a weeklong program beginning 24th night to culminate in the New Year’s day celebrations.
The Christmas Church Services are mostly set to begin by 10 pm on Saturday, and the Christmas high -mass will end a little beyond midnight. Most Churches, having erected Crib in their church square, will also conduct Star and Crib -Competitions in the villages.
Lokvishwas Prathistan, a school for Special Children at Mokhard -Bhatpal, celebrated Christmas on Friday, the last day of school before the weeklong Christmas vacation. The Special Children presented a short Christmas program, and the challenged students were given Gifts on occasion.
Meanwhile, with the government strongly advocating a music ban beyond 10 pm, not many had announced any midnight parties as was usually done on Christmas night and the Season that followed.
It is, however, learnt that many beach Coast Shacks and Restaurants had listed late-night parties but have not made public announcements to avoid police action on the celebration.
