CANACONA: Amidst fear that the water level in Canacona’s ‘Chapoli Dam’, has dwindled in the ensuring hot summer season, the water storage is much better placed at 58.30% as compared to last year’s corresponding period.
Chapoli Dam, the lifeline of Canconcars with a gross storage capacity of 11.22.30 ham, presently has storage of 654.29 ham, which is equivalent to 33.54 metres of RI (reduced level) on Thursday morning. This storage is slightly above 58.30 % and is much higher than last year’s corresponding period of 55.26%.
According to the information collected from Taluka observatory, last year’s corresponding R.L. was at 33.12 Mtrs on 04/04/2023 with storage of 620.22 ham.
A source in the WRD stated that though the heat –wave and rising temperatures are a concern, the storage of 654.29 ham at Chapoli dam is very promising and even if the summer is prolonged, there won’t be much water shortage at least in Chapoli dam for some more months.
A visit to the dam could see the sea of water in its main reservoir, a huge chunk of earth however has appeared in its northern part, which according to WRD sources is a normal sight at this time of the year.
