The administrators have become slaves of politicians in executing their anti-environment, anti-Goan, patently illegal and corrupt agenda. Gone are the days when they used to bend, today they not only crawl but prostrate before the ministers and their political masters. This is evident from the finding of the TCP officer whilst investigating genuine complaints against rampant hill cutting at Panzorconi (Cuncolim) wherein he arrogantly rules that Cancanamoddi hill is not a hill at all. Today, they say this, tomorrow they are capable of saying that Sal & Kushavati is not a river at all, said Yuri Alemao with contempt whilst addressing a press conference along with complainants at Margao.
Yuri Alemao said this is not only the issue of Cancanamoddi hill. Such rampant hill cutting and land conversions are going on full swing with the blessings of BJP ministers and MLAs throughout Goa. We see this in Cuncolim Constituency and at other locations coming under the purview of Local MLA & Marmagao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA). This body is a hotbed of corruption and illegalities running into hundreds of crores. The Cuncolim MLA who heads this PDA is dancing to serve the vested and corrupt interests of the ministers.
Pointing out that the Cancanamoddi hill is being razed to the ground at the behest of local MLA & Minister, Yuri stated that the Chief Officer is under tremendous political pressure and the plot developers are almost dictating to the Chief Officer who is due for retirement in September 2021.
Yuri was critical of the role of the Cuncolim MLA who it looks has been directed to stay mum and it now looks that the entire government machinery from TCP to Chief Officer is involved to clear all decks for the multi-crore illegal real estate project at Cancanamoddi. This matter should be taken up by the Vigilance Department and the DMA needs to conduct the departmental inquiry for granting provisional NOC without any reference to the Council.
