VASCO: A major accident occurred on the newly inaugurated Port Connectivity Flyover on Sunday morning when a Maruti Celerio car toppled at around 9 AM. The vehicle had two occupants at the time of the accident, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Motorists on the bridge immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene promptly.
The incident marks the first accident on the newly opened flyover, raising concerns about road safety measures at the location.
Following the accident, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Adv. Sunil Loran has called for immediate attention to ensure citizens’ safety and accessibility, particularly at the upramp and downramp at Baina. He has demanded a thorough safety audit to identify potential hazards and implement necessary safety measures to prevent future accidents.
In addition to the safety audit, Adv. Loran has urged authorities to issue a gazette notification granting permanent access to the public. This move, he argues, is essential to prevent the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) from restricting access in the future, ensuring uninterrupted use of the flyover by citizens.
With safety concerns now in the spotlight, authorities are expected to take action to assess and enhance security measures on the newly inaugurated flyover.
