PANAJI: The Goa government on Monday launched ‘Career Jagor’, a statewide initiative aimed at strengthening career guidance for students of Classes 10 and 12, with a focus on helping them make informed choices in a rapidly evolving job landscape.
The programme was inaugurated at Kala Academy and is being spearheaded by the Goa State Council of Educational Research and Training (GSCERT) in collaboration with the Directorate of Education, Directorate of Higher Education, Directorate of Technical Education, and the Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
Under the initiative, nearly 600 teachers across Goa will be trained as “Career Ambassadors” to deliver structured career guidance in schools. The programme will be rolled out across the state from April 24.
Addressing the launch, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Classes 10 and 12 are crucial stages where the right guidance can shape a student’s future. He emphasised that while students have aspirations, teachers play a vital role in nurturing and directing them effectively.
Highlighting emerging career avenues, Sawant pointed to opportunities in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, cybersecurity, digital media, tourism innovation, and entrepreneurship. He stressed the importance of continuous skill development and adaptability to succeed in modern careers.
Urging educators to move beyond conventional career paths, he encouraged them to guide students based on their interests and strengths. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that “Yuva Shakti is Desh ki Shakti,” he called upon teachers to carry out their responsibilities as Career Ambassadors with dedication.
The launch event was attended by senior officials from the education sector, including Secretary (Education) Prasad Lolayekar, Director Bhushan Sawaikar, Director Shailesh Zingde, Director Vinayak Kambli, GSCERT Director Meghana Shetgaonkar, Goa Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye, and State Project Director Manoj Sawaikar, along with teachers from across Goa.
Officials said the initiative aims to ensure every student in Goa receives proper career guidance, enabling them to align their abilities with future opportunities.
