PANAJI: As the opposition keeps pushing for a judicial investigation into cash scam employment, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has supported the state government’s decision.
Giriraj Pai Vernekar, a BJP spokesperson, told reporters at a press conference that the scam was only discovered after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took suo motu cognizance of the issue, launched an investigation, and encouraged the public to report the scammers.
It is “good” to see the opposition trust the Prime Minister enough to appeal to him, Vernekar said, praising the opposition’s decision to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ask for his help. But pointing out that they did not back the judicial investigation headed by a retired High Court judge, he questioned their inconsistency.
Vernekar praised the police and chastised the opposition for questioning their legitimacy. “The opposition calls for a CBI investigation into the jobs-for-cash scam, while Arvind Kejriwal opposes the Enforcement Directorate and Rahul Gandhi criticizes the CBI. Such parties ought to make their position clear,” he said.
Vernekar further charged that the Congress was acting unfairly, citing the party’s social media chairperson’s detention in a land-grabbing forgery case and a Canacona Congress leader’s alleged attempt to conceal connections to schemes.
