Panaji: Even as the businesses and economy of the State is at all-time low due to COVID19 pandemic, the government does not restrict itself from imposing more and more rules and regulation.
Instead of curbing restrictions for businesses to flourish, the government now brings the catering industry under the ambit of pollution control Board.
As per the new notification, the catering unit operators, badly hit by pandemics and lockdowns, will now have to take consent to operate from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) as the units are now being categorised under Green category.
The decision to this effect was taken during the recently held Board meeting of the GSPCB.
Interestingly, until now, the catering units were not under the ambit of GSPCB. However, under the revised categorisation of the units, as set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the unit was identified for the categorisation.
Further, the Board also deliberated with regards to caterers serving food for Tiffin basis or Self Help Groups. It was decided to classify the activity on the quantity of the food being served.
The service, based on supply of food, will be categorised as Green or White industry. In case of Green, the operator will have to obtain Consent to Operate from the Board, while for those in White category, can run without consent.
