PANAJI: The City Corporation of Panaji (CCP) jointly inspected flood-prone areas, including Miramar and Stella Maris, prior to the monsoon season.
Visits to the site were made by Mayor Rohit Monserrate, representatives from the Water Resource Department, and smart city officials. Mayor Monserrate recognized Stella Maris’s ongoing flooding issue over the previous ten years.
The Mayor did, however, reassure everyone that the CCP is actively trying to resolve this matter. He outlined the difficulties encountered in carrying out this work, such as the need to dig roads for smart city projects, and he reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to looking into alternate solutions.
He went on to say that in order to address the flooding concerns near Stella Maris and Miramar Road, CCP has worked with the Water Resource Department and has asked for the installation of new drainage systems in these areas.
He went so far as to draw attention to the ongoing problem of the underlying wires in the Miramar to Bal Bhavan stretch clogging drains. He did, however, mention that efforts are being made to reroute drainage because it is not always feasible to move these wires.
He went on to say that the intention is to get rid of the flooding problems that have affected communities like Stella Maris for the previous ten years. This year, the goal is to reduce the likelihood of flooding during the monsoon season.
