CANACONA: After laying water conveying pipeline by digging the Chapolim-Canacona road, the contractor has left it in a state that driving on this road has become dangerous and risk as many two-wheelers have lost control of their vehicles to be met with accidents, locals say.
Locals allege that the contractor awarded the contract to lay water conveying pipeline from the Chapolim Dam to the Water Treatment Plant at Shristal has left the road in an unmotorable condition as the road itself has washed away at most of the places upto Nagarcem.
Laxman, a resident of Chapolim village, informed Goemkarponn that laying a 200mm diameter pipe was started two years ago, and the contractor, after laying pipes, asphalted the over two-kilometre village road but immediately the road got washed away.
According to the information from the locals, the pipeline itself is leaking at three different places which have caused the road to get washed away, apart from these the road has got washed away at other places also, they informed.
A glance at the state of the road in which it lies makes anyone believe that the contractor is not experienced to do this work. The trenches on the middle of the road after laying the pipeline had to be filled with soil, as the water was not added to the soil, the loose soil was not rammed for compaction, the result is for everyone to see added the villagers.
The road itself passes through unstable terrain. It remains saturated with water during monsoon, which is another reason for the road to get washed away reasoned out another local of the village.
In addition, the road leading to the village from the junction near the railway station is very narrow, both the issues are leading to many accidents informed locals.
The road has become unsafe for traffic, and it has become prone to accidents due to slipping of vehicles; many two-wheelers, after falling off from their two-wheelers, have sustained grievous injuries.
