Panaji: The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights held a review meeting with Child Welfare Committees of North Goa and South Goa on 12/07/2021 in the conference hall at Secretariat, Porvorim, Goa.
The joint meeting was organized to make an assessment of the current child protection system and identify gaps for providing better interventions for children in Goa.
After the introduction of the Commission Members and Child Welfare Committee, North Goa and South Goa, Mr. Peter F. Borges, Chairperson of the Commission, in his presentation emphasized the importance of the strength of the character and following the spirit of the law to truly focus on the best interest of the child. He stressed on standards of care, more focus on non-institutional care, need to review the implementation of child specific legislation, policies and schemes in Goa.
The presentation was followed by an open discussion among the Members. It has been decided that further action will be taken in the specific areas of Foster Care, Vocational centre and certain short coming in the Child Care Institutions to be rectified.
