PONDA: A considerable amount of garbage has been collected in the drains near Curti Underpass and other points in Curti Khandepar Panchayat and Ponda City. It can be easily noticed while passing through the service road giving a stench smell.
Local bodies have issued notices in the past, but this incident is not stopped yet. Now, the residents demand local bodies to make sure cleaning of the drain is done before the rainy season.
According to locals, the old internal nullah is meant to drain out rainwater. The local Chandrakant Naik said local bodies should ensure the cleaning of the drain and take necessary steps to stop people from dumping solid waste in the gutter. The drain has got choked at different points due to the dumping of garbage in it. He said in monsoon, the main nullah floods at Nagzar Curti, so local bodies must take steps to ensure the de-silting of all drains at the earliest so that the public does not face any inconvenience during the rainy season.
