VARCA: Former Goa Chief Minister Churchill Alemao on Monday revealed that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Goa desk in-charge Atishi Marlena recently visited him to discuss politics and broader issues concerning the State.
Speaking to the media, Alemao said he has not yet finalized his political plans. “Several leaders have approached me, but I will take a decision at the right time,” he added.
The meeting at Alemao’s Varca residence last week had sparked speculation in political circles, coming shortly after AAP Benaulim MLA and Churchill’s long-time rival Venzy Viegas warned the party leadership that he and fellow MLA Cruz Silva might explore an alternative political path if a united opposition front does not take shape in Goa.
Reflecting on his political journey, Churchill stressed the importance of people over elections. “The people of Benaulim have repeatedly placed their trust in me, and I have been similarly honoured by the residents of Navelim. It is because of their support that I had the privilege of becoming Goa’s first Catholic Chief Minister,” he said.
He also recalled his humble beginnings, noting, “It is no small feat for a seaman to rise to the position of Chief Minister. God, Mother Vailkankani, and the blessings of the people of Benaulim guided my political path.”
When asked about his plans for the 2027 Assembly elections, Alemao replied, “The media should ask the people whether they want Churchill back in the Assembly.”
